Cam'ron Reveals He's Patenting That Iconic Pink Shade & More With DJ Whoo Kid
Catching up with Killa Cam on the Dipset days.
This month DJ Whoo Kid invited one of Harlem’s finest for the latest episode of his SiriusXM show The Whoolywood Shuffle on Shade 45 – Mr. Killa Cam himself, born Cameron Giles, shares a slew of inside stories from the Dipset days to present endeavours in an exclusive 30-minute interview.
As a fashion icon, Cam’ron is “no Russell Westbrook,” but the Harlem rapper touches on the legacy of the Diplomats as trendsetters and their influence on hip-hop fashion over the years. Growing up with rappers like Ma$e, Cam looked up to icons from his neighborhood like Big L and today, Cam’ron is still in the hip-hop game having just kicked off his ‘Smoker’s Club Tour’ in Vancouver, BC this week. Cam also shares an inside story regarding the infamous incident in 1999 where Jay Z was charged for third-degree assault for stabbing record executive Lance ‘Un’ Rivera that pitted him against a possible 15-year jail term. ‘Lo and behold the incident was apparently over a girl, according to Cam’ron — rapper Charli Baltimore who was The Notorious B.I.G.’s girl to be exact — dispelling all public belief that it was over a leaking of Jay’s Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter.
Fast forward to 2016 and Cam’s patented his own shade of light pink that will be coming out later this year in hopes of expanding the Killa Cam empire to apparel, paints, spaces and interior design. The pink hue will be debuting with the launch of an upcoming pair of pink camo sneakers made in collaboration with Reebok. Catch up with Cam’ron in his latest interview with DJ Whoo Kid above and listen to his new track “Oh Yeah” with Juelz Santana.
