Shanghai-based retailer DOE delivers its newest visuals to its in-house line of soft goods. Titled “Chinafornia,” the lookbook sheds light on the popular state of California as one of the first destinations for Chinese immigrants seeking a new life, and wealthy exchange students exploring Western culture — a dreamland of utopias.
In the collection we see East-meets-West as the flag of California is mixed in with Asian motifs across a light jacket, stadium jackets, and graphics tees. Shot in Shanghai, China, the backdrop features one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, the Yangpu Bridge — sister bridge of Nanpu Bridge, and one of the world’s longest cable-stayed bridges. The use of palm trees with dragons is prevalent throughout — two symbols synonymous with California and China, respectively. The DOE “Chinafornia” Spring/Summer 2018 collection is available now from its web store.
