Concepts Drops Exclusive Mallard-Inspired New Balance 998
Quack quack.
Last seen in January, Concepts reunites with fellow Bostonians New Balance for another collaborative sneaker. This time, the pair reimagine the 998, inspired by New England’s mallard duck.
The bird’s muted Earth-toned feathers inform the light brown suede seen throughout the upper, with the duck’s bright orange bill inspiring the orange-tinged accents seen on the tongue and “N” branding. Blue detailing recalls the water where mallards live and hunt, with New Balance’s classic monochrome midsole both grounding the colorway and tying into the white banding seen on the necks and tails of the waterfowl.
For now, the sneaker is exclusively available at the Concepts x New Balance pop-up in Boston for $220 USD. Elsewhere, New Balance collaborated with COPSON for a clean 247 silhouette.
