Amsterdam-based brand KAIZEN has taken inspiration from Asian typography for its Spring/Summer 2018 “Language” capsule. The collection features a range of streetwear staples including a sweatshirt, T-shirt and double-layer tee, all of which feature KAIZEN branding and graphic motifs inspired by Japanese, Chinese and Malaysian text.

Arguably the stand-out piece in the collection is the Kimono sweater, which features embroidered text from a traditional poem titled The Lion-Eating Poet in the Stone Den. Every word in the poem is pronounced with the sound “shi,” yet due to the tonal nature of Chinese this single syllable can tell an entire story when repeated. Elsewhere, the collection features a T-shirt featuring a combination of French and Malaysian words for brother and a double-layer tee that juxtaposes formal Japanese words with “your true self.” The collection is available now from the KAIZEN web store.
