Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood FW18 Revisits Genderless Styling

Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood returnde to Paris Fashion Week with another boundary-pushing seasonal collection. For Fall/Winter 2018, the label’s creative director, Andreas Kronthaler, proposed a unisex runway informed by a host of Westwood’s classic designs.
Taking cues from Westwood’s output in the ’70s and ’80s in particular, the lineup included floral ankle-length skirts, enormous jackets with suitably gargantuan lapels, oversized slogan tees and raw-hemmed knitwear, all held in place with an array of drawstrings, straps and suspenders. An inclusive cast of models modeled relaxed trousers, jumpsuits, overalls and gowns of various sizes, striding the runway in platform-heeled boots and loafers with exaggerated tongues. The playful styling mixed and matched colorful dresses with a range of headwear and accessories, with the disparity and clashing patterns recalling Westwood’s anti-fashion punk heritage. Accenting the visually engaging clothes were a wide range of accessories like backwards baseball caps, facemasks, oversized earrings and knit armwarmers, while layering pieces ranged from funnel neck flight jackets to enormous coats fringed with leopard-printed faux fur.
