Chance the Rapper Will Have a Private Meeting With Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner
The two will discuss Chicago’s education system.
Chance the Rapper has revealed plans to meet with Illinois governor Bruce Rauner. Scheduled for this Wednesday, the private meeting will center around the education system in Chance the Rapper’s hometown of Chicago. “The two of us will address funding education in Chicago. I’m eager to hear his ideas,” Chance tweeted earlier today. The 23-year-old rapper initially brought up the idea of a meeting with his state’s governor after Rauner publicly congratulated him on his recent Grammy victories, and Rauner’s representatives meeting has been confirmed to the Chicago Tribune and Pitchfork.
Even Chance probably doesn’t share Rauner’s allegiance to the Republican Party, neither individual has had a particularity warm relationship with President Donald Trump. Speaking to ESPN for a new cover story, Chance voiced his criticism of Trump’s remarks about “sending feds” to Chicago, likening the POTUS’ tweet about the matter to a declaration of war. Rauner has kept his distance from Trump since primary season, even choosing to boycott the first formal White House dinner of his presidency.
