Beyoncé Sued by the Estate of the Late Messy Mya for a Sample Violation
Seeking $20,000,000 USD in royalties.

Landing herself in a bit of hot water, Beyoncé has recently been sued by the estate of the late rapper/YouTube personality Messy Mya over a voice sample used in the video version of the multi-award winning superstar’s hit “Formation.” Born Anthony Barré, the late artist’s estate filed a suit for words taken from Mya’s “A 27 Piece Huh?” video, which than made its way into Beyoncé’s hit song. It is believed attempts had been made to contact her camp regarding compensation but to no avail. The estate is now seeking more than $20,000,000 USD in back royalties.
