Batman Ninja had its first trailer back in December, and alongside a few new clips, we’re finally reintroduced to it with the English voice cast. We also get our first look at Bane and a reason why Batman, Joker and company are running around feudal Japan. After Batman and a few other well-known Gotham figures get transported to the era by Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine, the villains take over the forms of the feudal lords that rule the divided land.

Of course, the Joker takes the lead among the warring factions. “As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies — including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family — to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City,” says DC Entertainment’s press release. Batman Ninja is a three-way collaboration between anime heavyweights Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann), Jumpei Mizusaki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) and Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai).

The film will star Roger Craig Smith as Batman, Tony Hale as the Joker, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, and Will Friedle as Red Robin. Batman Ninja will be released digitally on April 24 with Blu-ray and DVD to follow on May 8. Check out the footage above and share your thoughts in the comments below.
