Skepta Transformed a Rolls-Royce Phantom Into a Music Studio
Also recording a new song in the process, “Skepta RR.”
With the Rolls-Royce V12 Phantom VIII set to hit the market soon, the affluent luxury carmaker has partnered up with Mercury Prize-winning grime star Skepta to compose and record an entire song while riding through the Swiss Alps. In the clip, you’ll see Skepta being chauffeured along the mountains of Switzerland in an eighth-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom where he would record a new track called “Skepta RR.” When asked why he explained, “I stepped in the car and there was no need to think,” adding, “It was like sitting in first class on a plane minus the noise. Comfortable and silent, a perfect space to make music.”
This latest Phantom from Rolls-Royce apparently offers more than 130kg of sound insulation, including two-layer 6mm glazing position, which essentially cancels out all outside noise, making it the ideal recording studio on wheels. In speaking of the collaboration, the CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Torsten Müller-Ötvös said, “I want to welcome Skepta to the World of Rolls-Royce. He has shown a unique and exciting appreciation of the marque and interpreted Phantom’s credentials as the world’s quietest and most luxurious motor car with an exceptionally creative track and film.”
