Preview Kanye West's 'American Idol' Audition
“My name is Kanye, I’m from the south side of Chicago.”
During American Idol‘s San Francisco leg of their auditions back in October, Kanye West joined the contestants to win a Golden Ticket into the music competition’s final season. His wife, Kim Kardashian West, unveiled a 30-second preview clip of Kanye’s audition. Although the video doesn’t offer any footage of his performance — he offered an a capella take of “Gold Digger” — it finds ‘Ye telling the judges:
“My name is Kanye, I’m from the south side of Chicago. I’m originally a producer. I always wanted to rap and no one really believed in me, so I wanted to try some things out, ya know?”
The entire audition will be aired when American Idol returns for its final season in January.
