Someone Made a Real-Life Lightsaber That Actually Burns
And Jar Jar Binks meets his maker.
Although we’ve already seen a slew of lightsaber variations that range from phone-mediated versions to deluxe replicas, none have actually been able to recreate the burning capabilities of the original weapons portrayed in the films – until now. Crafty techmaster Allen Pan, known as Sufficiently Advanced on YouTube, has created the first lightsaber that actually burns. Utilizing a nichrome ignition as a starter, the device employs a fuel and propellant mixture of methanol, acetone and butane to recreate the lethal IRL saber. Pan even installed a sound FX feature and valve control so that the blade produces the iconic sound when it is armed. In addition, the lightsaber is equipped with the ability to change color from blue to green thanks to a supplement of boric acid. Check out the video above as Pan wreaks havoc on a team of storm troopers and ultimately, Jar Jar Binks.
