Google Chrome Can Turn Your Cellphone Into a Lightsaber
Live out your childhood dreams.
In case you haven’t noticed, the release of Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is just around the corner. Brands and media alike have been churning out tons of content in anticipation of J.J. Abrams’ much-hyped sequel to George Lucas’s landmark sci-fi series, and it appears that Google is no different: in addition to its Light/Dark side themes, the California-based search engine and tech giant has released a browser game, Lightsaber Escape, that plays into the extended universe.
The main character is a Jedi who must escape from a ship full of stormtroopers by deflecting blaster fire using the series’ iconic weapon. The game — or ‘Chrome Experience,’ as Google calls it — is unique in that the lightsaber isn’t controlled with a mouse or keyboard, but instead it uses the player’s cellphone: simply go to lightsaber.withgoogle.com, type the URL provided into your phone’s browser, calibrate your handset, and then–nyooom–you’re Luke Skywalker. Try out the experience now.
