'The Empire Strikes Back' With Columbia Sportswear's New 'Star Wars' Parka
A new iteration of the original cast and crew jacket.
Taking from the past and propelling it into a galaxy far, far away, Columbia Sportswear has announced the release of a reinvented cast and crew parka from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Meant to withstand the icy sub-zero conditions of Hoth, the sportswear brand seeks to satisfy Star Wars fans with a limited edition release of the collectible parka with the help of updated technology.
Last year, the Portland-based brand released their “Echo Base” collection consisting of three unique Hoth-inspired jackets as worn by Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. Thanks to the continued partnership between the brand and Lucasfilm, fans have another chance to own a unique piece inspired by the Star Wars franchise.
The waterproof, breathable shell incorporates the brand’s Omni Heat™ lining, adding another 200g of insulation and a removable fur-lined hood that will “keep you as warm as a Wookiee.” The jacket’s exterior consists of a bold blue base with added security stripes on the shoulders for increased visibility. Varying Star Wars patches mark the outside of the jacket, a patch marking the geographical coordinates of the original filming location in Norway, and a customizable nameplate that can be personalized.
The piece will be available for $500 USD at select Columbia Sportswear brand stores on December 7, 2018 and is limited to one piece per customer. Some stores will also be selling the jackets signed by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, for roughly $1,980 USD each with proceeds going to local charities.
