Leonard Cohen Has Died at 82
The legendary Canadian artist’s career spanned five decades.

[gallery columns="3"]Legendary Canadian songwriter, poet, novelist and artist Leonard Cohen has passed away at the age of 82, according to a Facebook post on his official fan page. The post reads: “It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.” No details of the cause of death have emerged, and a memorial will take place in Los Angeles at “a later date.”
Leonard Cohen was known as “the high priest of pathos” and the “godfather of gloom,” with a highly influential body of work spanning five decades. Known for his poetry and folk music, Cohen’s work garnered a passionate cult following for the broad range of topics his lyrics covered, including themes of love, betrayal, despair and doom. He is perhaps known most for his song “Hallelujah,” as well as other well-known tunes like “Suzanne,” “Famous Blue Raincoat” and “Everybody Knows.” Books that he wrote include Book of Longing, Beautiful Losers and The Favourite Game.
