A Look Inside KAWS' "GONE" Exhibition in NYC
On view until December 19.
Following his Vanity Fair On Art 2018 cover, KAWS has now officially launched his highly-anticipated “GONE” exhibition at the Skarstedt Gallery in New York City. The latest showcase spotlights never-before-seen paintings with masterful compositions that are more abstract yet retain the Brooklyn-based artist’s colorful acrylic palette with his trademark XX motif in the mix. Accompanying the tall paintings are Companion sculptures including his BFF statue in blue. The highlight of the show is the greyscale Companion holding the resting blue BFF version in its arms; a silhouette that critics note have similarities to Michaelangelo’s Pieta. Altogether, the exhibit surrounds the theme of loss.
Check out the preview above and drop by Skarstedt Gallery yourself to check out the works in person. “GONE” is on view until December 19. Elsewhere in art, James Jean unveils his meticulously-crafted Mickey and Minnie Mouse figures at the “Mickey: The True Original” show in New York City.
