Netflix Releases Trailer for Andy Serkis-Directed 'Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle'
The project will get a limited theater release before hitting the streaming service next month.
After a first trailer emerged earlier this year, Netflix has given another look at its upcoming Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle movie. The live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book is directed by Andy Serkis and tells a darker side to the story, and stars Rohan Chand as the title character. Other cast members include Christian Bale as Bagheera the panther, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan the tiger and Cate Blanchett as a python named Kaa.
As the initial trailer showed — released before Netflix acquired distribution rights – the movie focuses on Mowgli’s struggle for acceptance in the jungle. After being raised by a pack of wolves, Mowgli is taken in by Bagheera and Baloo, although Shere Khan, the tiger, does not believe that he belongs in the jungle.
Despite the movie being distributed by Netflix, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle will receive a limited theater release. The movie is slated to hit select theaters — likely to include New York and Los Angeles in order to qualify for awards — on November 29, before being available to stream on Netflix on December 7.
In other entertainment news, a full-length Breaking Bad movie is coming soon.
