George R.R. Martin Confirms 'Game of Thrones' Prequel Title, 'The Long Night'
More cast members will be announced soon.

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has officially announced that the first GoT prequel will be called The Long Night. It was confirmed earlier this week that Naomi Watts will lead the forthcoming ensemble cast, playing the role of a “charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” The HBO show is scheduled to begin filming in 2019 after the final Game of Thrones season airs.
Martin confirmed this information on his blog, stating that “Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film.” It further details that Jane Goldman scripted The Long Night pilot and that her and her team are “neck deep in casting” in London, teasing more cast member names to be announced soon.
As for the other possible GoT prequels, Martin writes: “I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could.”
