Ryan Coogler Will Direct & Write the 'Black Panther' Sequel

The original filmmaker is back on board.

As expected, it looks like original Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler has officially signed on to direct and write the mega-hit’s forthcoming sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news, noting that Coogler and Marvel were said to have”quietly closed a deal.” Coogler will reportedly pen the script in 2019, while the studio plans to begin production in “late 2019 or early 2020.” Currently, Coogler is busy executive producing Creed 2 and LeBron James’ Space Jam sequel; he’s also working with Michael B. Jordan on putting together the drama Wrong Answer.

While an official statement has yet to surface, we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Last month, Marvel Comics revealed plans for a comic book series about Black Panther villain Killmonger.
