New Gosha Rubchinskiy Documentary Explores the Designer's Powerful Influence on Russia's Youth
How Post-Soviet Russia’s rave and skate culture has made it to his collections.
i-D has just released a short documentary film exploring Gosha Rubchinskiy‘s massive influence amongst the youth in Post-Soviet Russia. Filmmaker Tom Irvin also puts the lens on Rubchinskiy himself to better understand his creative process as he takes inspiration from the country’s rave, skate and sportswear culture. Additionally, the Russian multihyphenate’s 2018 spring/summer show, which was his first in St. Petersburg, also becomes a focal point in the film as many of the boys who answered the presentation’s casting call divulge their thoughts on how much Rubchinskiy means to them. One boy even states plainly that, “Rubchinskiy is culture.”
