Yohji Yamamoto’s 2018 spring/summer collection is an expert lesson in balancing color, imagery, and shape. While often referred to as the “Master of Shadows,” Mr. Yamamoto has recently been departing more from the monochrome hue and starting to inject more and more colors and graphics to his coveted line. For 2018 spring/summer, we still see the loosely constructed silhouettes the fashion house is known for but the injection of striking patterns, bold shades, and highly-detailed prints really gives new life to the brand’s ethos. Moreover, there is the series of women’s illustrated portraits that are the standout aspect of the collection. There are still streamlined suits and avant-garde silhouettes in the mix but the overall range has a lot more to offer in terms of fashion-forward flair.
