Studio Sounds: WILLY CHAVARRIA's Playlist Is "Dark and Sexual"
“The soundtrack of the brand is a range from quiet electronic clicks-and-clacks to pounding, guttural house music.”
Willy Chavarria has an interesting story to tell. Despite being based out of Copenhagen, the brand maintains a Soho boutique that is pumping with Chicano DNA.
According to Chavarria, this idea of Mestizo culture is a guiding principle for the brand’s collection, and so when HYPEBEAST approached the designer for his Studio Sounds playlist, he selected tracks that mirror this ethos. “I actually can’t quite function without a soundtrack in place,” says Chavarria. “The soundtrack of the brand is a range from quiet electronic clicks-and-clacks to pounding, guttural house music. The Spring 2018 Season’s soundtrack is dark and sexual, with some ’90s New Wave effects.”
The playlist reflects these choices: after a brief hip-hop introduction courtesy of Gil-Scott Heron’s godfatherly grit and Kendrick Lamar’s funk, we are thrown headfirst into a house-heavy set with highlights from Nina Kraviz, Maceo Plex and Jamie Jones. The latter is responsible for Chavarria’s Song of the Summer nominee, “Summertime,” obviously.
