Dirk Bikkembergs Fuses Workwear, Sportswear and Minimalism for 2018 Spring/Summer

Clean and handsome “awkwardness.”

Helmed by creative director Lee Wood, Dirk Bikkembergs‘ Spring/Summer 2018 collection presented a clean and modern line-up inspired by the Brutalist architecture movement of the mid-2000s. Incorporating workwear and sportswear influences under a minimalist and monochrome theme, the collection sees a rich mix of premium textiles — such as leather, suede, denim and stiff jersey — constructed into elegant yet robust silhouettes with just enough “awkwardness” for a neo-utilitarian aesthetic. Wide-lapels, off-centered closures, burly metal rivets, rolled-up hems and leather straps at the shoulders remix traditional workwear fits, while toasty windowpane check and a glaring lime green spruce up the brutally neutral color palette.
