Former James Bond Star Roger Moore Has Died at the Age of 89

He’ll always live on as 007.

Sir Roger Moore, the former James Bond star, has passed away at the age of 89. Moore was battling cancer when he passed away in Switzerland. His family shared the news via Twitter, “With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated.”

The British actor played the world renown secret agent James Bond 007 in seven films — Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, and A View to a Kill — the most of any Bond actor. In addition to his role as 007, Moore was also known for playing Simon Templar in The Saint between 1962 and 1969 and had other TV roles in Ivanhoe, The Alaskans, Maverick and The Persuaders!.

In 1991 he became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and an active advocate for children’s causes after seeing what his friend Audrey Hepburn had done with UNICEF. The British government honored Moore in 1999 with the title of Commander of the British Empire and Queen Elizabeth II knighted him in 2003 for his UNICEF work. Hollywood honored Moore in 2008 with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
