Watch Dafne Keen's Improv X-23 Audition for 'Logan'
“I was like holy sh*t. This is something.” – Hugh Jackman
A recently released audition tape of 11-year-old Dafne Keen who played Laura aka X-23 in Logan, shows exactly why she nearly stole the show from our protagonist Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The young actress, who’s praised by both Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and Jackman, asked that she be allowed to improvise one of the most important scenes in the film for her audition — the Spanish/English exchange between Logan and Laura where she insists on heading to Eden and Logan argues back that it doesn’t exist.
When Hugh Jackman spoke with Entertainment Weekly, he said that he was nervous structuring a movie around a child actor but when he saw Keen’s tape, “you could just tell by the look on her face, I was like ‘Holy shi*t. This is something.’” It’s one thing to receive praise from both Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman but Dafne managed to top that by giving Jackman a bruise, something the actor says hasn’t happened before.
