HODINKEE Teams up With Ressence for the Type 1H
Ben Clymer and company put their spin on Benoit Mintiens’ original design.

Originally released back in 2014 and designed in conjunction with Benoit Mintiens, Ressence’s Type 1 timepiece has gotten a makeover at the hands of Ben Clymer and company for HODINKEE‘s latest exclusive. Utilizing sandblasted and skeletonized convex dial discs of solid German silver, the Type 1H offers a unique take on the original Type 1 to showcase the 27 gears, 40 jewels, and two ball bearings of the customized ETA 2824/2 caliber within. Each disc has even been sharply beveled to outline the openings while the markings and “hands” have been coated in dark grey SuperLuminova that glows bright green in the dark. Other details include the likes of a stainless steel case in place of the usual titanium while the 42mm width of the original has been shrunken down to 41.5mm to make it a little less hefty (it sits 1mm lower on the wrist, too). Finally, the Type 1H ditches the crown entirely — instead, wears wind and set the watch via the textured caseback.
A modern day nod to old school horology, the Type 1H is available online now for $22,500 USD and limited to just 20 individually numbered pieces.
