Building on the release of last year’s unique liquid-filled Type 3, Ressence and Belgian designer, Benoit Mintiens, unveiled the brand new Type 1 at this year’s Baselworld. An evolution of Ressence’s own Type 1001 concept, the Type 1 employs a thinner case — paired with a curved sapphire crystal — and a crown-less winding system, and winding and setting can be accomplished simultaneously by twisting the case’s bottom plate. The dial itself recalls the look of the Type 3 and isn’t static; instead, it offers an “orbital interpretation” of time — powered by a patented 18-gear system — with each disc rotating together in unison as they display their specific functions. Offered in five different finishes, the Ressence Type 1 will start at $20,600 USD when it launches later this year.
