Ressence has unveiled the TYPE 9 Jules Wittock edition, the latest in its art watch series, created in collaboration with Belgian artist Jules Wittock. Known for his freehand labyrinths, Wittock brings his signature maze designs to the dial of the TYPE 9, with each path engraved into Grade 5 titanium and hand‑filled with white lacquer. Limited to 60 pieces – 30 in Emerald Green and 30 in Black – the watches invite wearers to discover hidden words within the maze, revealed only when the dial aligns at midnight or midday.
The centerpiece of the collaboration is a 0.2-millimeter-wide maze milled directly into Grade 5 titanium and hand-filled with white lacquer and Grade A Super-LumiNova®. Designed with a single entrance and exit, the labyrinth conceals a secret word embedded within its paths. Because the dial relies on the patented Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS 9) – where hours and minutes sub-dials continuously orbit in revolving motion – the labyrinth continuously shifts throughout the day. The secret word only aligns and reveals its hidden message twice daily, at midnight and midday, offering a playful homage to Wittock’s childhood ritual of making wishes at repeating times like 11:11 or 22:22.
The Emerald Green edition arrives in its namesake hue in an ALD-coated titanium dial that shifts to purple depending on the light angle. Meanwhile, the Black edition presents a stark white-filled maze over a black PVD-coated titanium dial and black case. Housed in a compact 39mm by 11mm polished Grade 5 titanium case weighing just 42 grams, both models are driven by a customized self-winding movement delivering a 36-hour power reserve. Operating without a traditional crown, winding and time setting are adjusted directly via the rotating caseback. Available via Ressence’s online store and select global retailers, each piece is priced at 20,000 CHF (approx. $24,420 USD).
