There Is a Campaign for Chance the Rapper to Run for Mayor of Chicago
“They screamin’ Chano for mayor, I’m thinkin’ maybe I should.”
On April 2, a group of Chance the Rapper fans created the website chano4mayor.com asking the rapper to go up against Rahm Emanual to run for the mayor of Chicago in 2019. The website’s address is inspired by Chance’s “Somewhere in Paradise” song, where he says “They say I’m savin’ my city, say I’m stayin’ for good. They screamin’ Chano for mayor, I’m thinkin’ maybe I should.”
“Hey Chance, we think you’d be a great mayor,” the site’s creators said. “You represent Chicago on the world stage, and you do us proud.” The page’s founders even spoke with the Sun-Times about their website. “We would be very happy if he ran,” Bea Malsky said. “[W]e would be very happy if he’d become more politically involved and he endorsed a candidate who stands up for the same things that he stands up for in his music.”
For those who don’t already know, Chance’s father, Ken Bennett, recently worked as the deputy chief of staff for Emanuel. Let us know if you’d think that Chance the Rapper would be a good mayor for his city.
