Public School Gets Political During Its 2017 Fall/Winter Collection

With the current political climate in the U.S., artists and entertainers have taken a bold stance against Trump, along with businesses risking a public backlash for associating with the businessman-turned-politician. New York’s Public School took no hesitation to echo this sentiment as it conveyed a strong message during its latest 2017 fall/winter collection during Fashion Week. Turning Trump’s infamous “Make America Great Again” slogan into “Make America New York,” red caps satirizing the political campaign could be seen throughout the runway. The PSNY x Jordan capsule hoodie bearing the text “We Need Leaders” on the back provided a rallying cry to incite change, while a remixed version of “This Land Is Your Land” closed out the event. Aside from the statement-making pieces, designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow showcased a range of deconstructed suits paired with sportswear-inspired details, as tailored blazers were balanced against oversized slacks and down-filled coats.
