LEGO Technic Kit Inspires BMW to Build Hover Ride Design Concept

Back in November, we covered the story of a LEGO Technic kit that releases tomorrow — the 603-piece BMW R 1200 GS Adventure kit. Like multiple Technic kits from the Danes, the build is a 2-in-1, allowing the builder to create two outcomes, in this case the actual BMW motorcycle and the other being a futuristic flying motorcycle. LEGO Technic designer Lars Thygesen said, “What would the perfect motorcycle look like? It needs to be fast and agile and have what it takes to take you where a car can’t drive.”

So when the folks at LEGO sent the BMW Motorrad team five sets of the kit, a collaborative effort grew into a real life Hover Ride Design Concept. Brought to life by the BMW Junior Company, a BMW Group training unit, the full-size replica will debut at LEGO World in Copenhagen and then travel to the BMW Group Research and Innovation Center Munich and BMW Welt. BMW Motorrad vehicle design head Alexander Buckan said, “It was a great idea and a superb creative challenge to develop a fictitious model from the parts of the LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure set, our concept not only incorporates the BMW Motorrad design DNA with typical elements such as the boxer engine and the characteristic GS silhouette, it also draws on the LEGO Technic stylistic idiom.”
