The 4,104-piece build replicates the Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear at 1:8 scale, introducing a working Ghost Mode, a 9-speed sequential gearbox, and a Triplex suspension system, all firsts for a Technic Ultimate model. It arrives July 2026, timed to a record-breaking stunt at Goodwood that frames exactly what kind of territory this collaboration is operating in.

The set’s headline feature is the Ghost Mode function. A single movement raises the rear clam, rotates the dihedral synchro-helix doors and front hood, and folds the mirrors simultaneously, replicating the choreographed reveal mechanism of the actual Sadair’s Spear. For a LEGO Technic model at this scale, coordinating that sequence of linked mechanical actions through a brick-built system represents a significant design problem. Senior Model Designer Kasper Rene Hansen described the ambition internally as producing “the most advanced LEGO Technic build we’ve ever produced,” and the Ghost Mode is the clearest evidence of where that effort was concentrated.

The drivetrain adds further depth. A functional 9-speed transmission sits at the core of the build, paired with a rotating gear indicator disc that visually displays the active gear, a detail that rewards close inspection as much as active play. The Triplex suspension, applied front and rear, mirrors a system specific to Koenigsegg’s engineering philosophy, one that the brand developed to manage the extreme performance demands of its road cars. Bringing it into a LEGO Technic context required close collaboration between the LEGO design team and Koenigsegg’s engineers over the course of the set’s development.

Additional functional elements include working steering, a removable roof, and an authentic V8 piston engine integrated into the drivetrain. The set measures 59cm in length and 28cm wide, sitting comfortably as both a display object and an interactive build. At 4,104 pieces, the complexity of the construction is consistent with prior entries in the Ultimate Car Concept Series, though the density of new mechanical firsts packed into this edition separates it from its predecessors.

The launch stunt sharpens that context considerably. A life-size, drivable replica built from 327,906 LEGO elements and weighing approximately 1,800kg, of which 400kg is LEGO bricks, was driven up the Goodwood hill in reverse by Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh, reaching 111km/h. That figure more than doubles the previous record of 50km/h for a drivable LEGO car. Lundh was the same driver who set the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill Climb record in the actual Sadair’s Spear in 2025, a detail that ties the stunt to a specific moment of real-world performance rather than treating it as a standalone spectacle. The life-size build took more than 9,400 hours to develop and construct, and incorporated the car’s working Ghost Mode and signature Koenigsegg key alongside its structural LEGO Technic body.

The LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar (42232) opens for LEGO Insiders Early Access on July 1, with general availability from July 4 via LEGO online and LEGO Stores.
