Google to Break Into the Television Market With YouTube TV

Google has revealed plans for another attempt at making a mark on the television market. After months of speculation, the California-based tech giant has announced a TV provider service called YouTube TV. Billed as a budget-friendly “skinny” bundle, YouTube TV will offer 40 channels for the reasonable rate of $35 USD per month. Disney-ABC, FOX, CBS and NBCUniversal have inked programming deals with Google/YouTube for the new endeavor, although networks and companies such as Time Warner, Viacom, and Discovery Communications and Scripps Networks Interactive have yet to enter any contract. YouTube TV will feature both live and on-demand options, and is being offered as an internet-based “alternative” to the traditional TV system that many millennials aren’t satisfied with.
Interested consumers can expect to see YouTube TV pop up within the near future in the United States’ largest markets, while the company has plans to swiftly expand in the months following the service’s initial launch — specific dates are currently unavailable.
