Nike Honors Germany's Plattenbau With Laser-Cut Dunk
Loaded with unique details.

2017 saw Nike revive some of its iconic SB Dunk Lows, ranging from Jeff Staples’ “Pigeon” to 2005’s Medicom Toy collaboration. The sneaker giant is closing out the year with a clean and creative Dunk, taking cues from German architecture.
Germany’s Plattenbau are apartment buildings crafted from prefabricated “plates” stacked on top of each other. The slitted structures inspired the laser-cut upper on Nike’s “Plattenbau,” with heel-embroidered D85 and D17 marking the years in which the Dunk silhouette and “Plattenbau” were created. Blue and gold lace tips boast two German words — “Traum” and “Tristesse,” which translate to “Dream” and “Melancholy,” respectively. By tying the shoes, the two extremes are intertwined, reflecting life in Berlin’s poorer suburbs. Other features include custom insoles, and text that reflects the typology of the Plattenbau behind the left tongue, and the sneaker’s limited number behind the other tongue (1 out of 240 pairs).
Berlin’s Overkill will exclusively receive the sneakers on December 14, so keep an eye on its web store. In other SB news, Nyjah Huston‘s forthcoming signature shoe has been revealed.
