Ex Studio Ghibli Creatives Debut Trailer for 'Mary and the Witch's Flower'
The vets of Studio Ghibli unite for a new animated feature.
A team of Studio Ghibli veterans has come together to form Studio Ponoc, and a full-length trailer for its first feature film has arrived. Mary and the Witch’s Flower is an anime film based on an English children’s novel by Mary Stewart called The Little Broomstick set in a school of witchcraft and wizardry. Built on a dark past, a young witch named Mary wishes to uncover the evil spell within the walls.
Dubbed in English, the film will feature Ruby Barnhill and Kate Winslet. Hiromasa Yonebayashi is famed for his work as a director and animator for films like Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Spirited Away. He alongside Yoshiaki Nishimura (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya) will helm the movie. Mary and the Witch’s Flower is expected to hit US theaters January 19 and UK cinemas in Spring 2018, but for now, check the trailer above and leave your thoughts below.
