The Live-Action 'Pokémon' Movie Has Its Lead
From Netflix’s ‘The Get Down.’
Legendary, the studio behind the upcoming live-action Pokèmon movie titled Detective Pikachu has found its human lead in Justice Smith. Smith recently gained his breakout role in the now-canceled Netflix musical drama series The Get Down after director Baz Luhrmann handpicked him to star in the series that he created and executive produced.
Detective Pikachu is planned as the first in a series that will be based on the popular Pokèmon franchise, which spans card games, video games, TV series and animated films. Recently, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! released in the U.S. with an English dub and a talking Pikachu, which freaked a lot of people out. The yellow mouse is expected to talk as well in the live-action adaptation, with people galvanizing to get Danny DeVito as the voice actor.
