Jaquet Droz Debuts Ultra-Limited Tropical Bird Repeater Watch
Featuring automated birds and luminescent creatures.

Watchmaker Jaquet Droz crafts timepieces with bird imagery and references yearly to automaton designer Pierre Jaquet-Droz’s centuries-old creations. Now, the Swiss company has revealed its latest example of craftsmanship, the Tropical Bird Repeater.
Limited to only eight pieces worldwide, the Tropical Bird Repeater isn’t merely a quality timepiece, but an example of high-level craftsmanship. The hand-carved and engraved face features fauna that move in real time — a hummingbird beats its wings 40 times a second, while a peacock spreads its plumage and a toucan appears from behind palm leaves and opens its beak. Meanwhile, SuperLuminova-coated dragonflies glow in the dark.
Naturally, the watch boasts ornate mechanisms as well. Featuring Jaquet Droz’s newly-developed RMA89 movement, the watch’s regulator is nearly silent. New rack springs allow the watch to execute smooth strikes at the quarter hours, covering four semitones. Finally, its power reserve has been extended to 60 hours.
The Tropical Bird Repeater’s price is available upon request to the manufacturer. Noted watchmaker Panerai also announced an animal-inspired watch, with a new timepiece celebrating the Year of the Dog.
