Conor McGregor May Soon Return to the Boxing Ring
For a fight against his ex-sparring partner.
It’s been a little under two months since Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor in Las Vegas, but the Irish UFC fighter is reportedly in talks for another crossover fight. His potential opponent is Paulie Malignaggi, his ex-sparring partner who quit the camp before the Mayweather fight, claiming that the pictures released of their training were inaccurate.
Malignaggi told FightHype that his representative Al Haymon had already begun discussions: “I know Al Haymon’s talking to Dana White. If they want the fight, they’ll make it happen. I don’t need to do all of that because Al Haymon makes anything he wants happen, happen. The only way it doesn’t happen [is] if this guy doesn’t have any balls. This fight will pay him more, this fight will get him more exposure – this fight is bigger than anything else he has. There’s no more Mayweather fight, this is the biggest fight there is.”
As it stands, any official confirmation of the match is a long way off, but some companies have already offered odds in case it does. Unsurprisingly, Sky Bet has Malignaggi as its favorite for the fight, with odds of 8/15, while McGregor is on 6/4 for an outright win and, finally, a draw has odds of 33/1.
One potential stumbling block is Conor McGregor’s upcoming return to UFC, with a fight against interim champion Tony Ferguson recently being confirmed.
