Del the Funky Homosapien Discusses Parallels Between Skateboarding and Rap
The perfection of a craft.
Deeply rooted in the improvisation of dexterous movements with an addition of personal style, the parallels between skateboarding and jazz music have existed since 1991’s Video Days, when Gonzo set his segment behind Coltrane’s “Traneing In.” In a recent São Paulo film session, legendary Bay Area wordsmith, Del the Funky Homosapien speaks about perfecting his ollie, and the similarities skateboarding shares with his own craft of rapping. He attributes his skills of lyricism to a childhood set in the ‘70s, a time when smooth talking was a necessary skill in captivating the attention of females.
