LANDLORD struck New York City hard on July 14 with its introduction into 2016 NYFW: Mens. The label, with Japanese designer Ryohei Kawanishi, Business Director Naoki Masuda and CEO Daniel Huang at the helm, takes its inspiration from Berlin artist Isa Genzken, whose works include that of material culture, consumer goods, design, media and architecture. The most prevalent motivation from Isa’s work is that of urban surroundings, with a strong visual of workwear throughout the entire presentation. High visibility jackets, reflective materials and neon plastics dominated the garment assortment, which the brand attributes as a response to the urban environment of NYC specifically.

The presentation thus brought together a plethora of fans, most of whom were impressed with the contrast of attire that stood out against the lack of decor, most recognizable with the absence of any furniture, fixtures and even a table for the DJ. The display thus exuded careful curation while simultaneously staying humble in its efforts; the tagline for the show mimics both the clothing and its display as a request to “Please Excuse our Appearance.” For more on LANDLORD, check out its previous 2016 fall/winter collection.
