VUHL's New 05RR Is as Quick as a Bugatti Veyron
VUHL upgrades the original 05.

Mexican outfit VUHL (“Vehicles of Ultra High-Performance and Lightweight”) burst onto the scene back in 2013 with its tiny, uber-quick 05 — a little two-seater that could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Now VUHL is building on the groundwork laid by its original offering, taking to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to reveal the 05RR. Even faster and more powerful than its predecessor, the 05RR largely stays true to the aesthetic of the 05, but ditches the old fiberglass paneling in favor of a full carbon fiber body and aluminium-carbon monocoque — thus shedding over 1,400 lbs. Couple that lightweight construction with an even more powerful version of Ford’s 2.3-liter Ecoboost engine (which now boasts 385 hp, 100 more than the 05) and you have a six-speeder that can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.7 seconds — a stat comparable to the likes of the insanely powerful (and expensive) Bugatti Veyron. Given it’s open-top, race-centric design, the 05RR ultimately tops out at 160 mph, but that’s a small price to pay for its speedy, lightweight maneuverability. VUHL even lowered the car’s center of gravity by about 50mm and coupled that modification with a high-speed steering rack, carbon fiber wheels and massive rear wing to make it “the ultimate race car for the road.”
Though pricing has yet to be revealed, the original 05 ran about $106,000 USD, so prospective buyers can expect a comparable MSRP for its new upgrade when it launches via the likes of Bespoke Performance.
