Bugatti has expanded its exclusive Solitaire program with the unveiling of the Destrier. Built on the ferocious foundation of the Bolide track car, this unique one-of-one creation translates relentless circuit performance into a masterpiece of coachbuilt proportions. By stripping away the high-downforce prototype aerodynamics of its predecessor, the French marque highlights an incredibly low-slung carbon tub pushed forward to emphasize the brand’s signature C-shaped metallic streak.
The hypercar trades aggressive winglets and massive rear aero for a subtler flat spoiler and a sleek silhouette that stands just one meter tall. Flared front fenders rise sharply from the beltline, complementing staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Out back, the Bolide’s quad tailpipes remain intact, though its X-shaped track lights are swapped out for a bespoke cross-shaped LED pattern. Bugatti design chief Frank Heyl noted that removing the aerodynamic constraints allowed the team to treat the underlying architecture as pure sculpture. It is scheduled to make its global debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The exterior paint finish serves as a deeply rooted historical tribute. Dubbed Sapphire Celeste, the unique blue shade honors the original color of the Type 57SC Atlantic famously owned by Ralph Lauren. The aesthetic link bridges the gap between road and track, mirroring the historic relationship between the 57SC street car and the Type 57G racer that secured a victory at the 1937 24 Hours of Le Mans. The connection underscores how the new machine bridges raw motorsport heritage with refined grand touring luxury.
Inside the cabin, the extreme minimalism of a race car gives way to lush materials and exquisite detailing. The interior is finished in warm brown leather and nubuck, accented by a distinctive 3D-knitted textile designed to resemble snakeskin. Even the control layout reflects a shift in focus, replacing track-specific emergency switches with elegant ignition controls. While the vehicle still commands the full 1,578 horsepower from its quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine, Bugatti insists the primary narrative here is absolute craftsmanship rather than outright lap times. Pricing for the exclusive commission remains unrevealed, though it easily eclipses the Bolide’s original multi-million dollar starting cost.
