France’s capital has been all eyes on Virgil Abloh, who after just three short years in the game now sits among some of the most anticipated shows among industry heavyweights. Having carved his place within high fashion (with a healthy dose of streetwear sensibilities), Virgil’s latest “Mirror Mirror” collection is a valiant effort, one that’s consciously steered his brand OFF-WHITE into a fresh direction for the new season where familiar branding has quietly evolved into elegant designs injected with Umbro collaborations and much more cohesive, couture-like pieces. Guests were introduced to the collection with an audio clip of Sonic Youth’s renowned interview from ‘88 during its runway presentation on the last day of Paris Fashion Week where Virgil’s frequent collaborator Guillaume Berg, also known as the other half of DJ collective Paris, IL, provided sounds from William Basinski, as well as Desiigner’s XXL Freshman freestyle and an extended version of Kanye West’s “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1” by DJDS (the very one that was previewed at the rapper’s “Famous” visual premiere). Hats off to you, Mr. Abloh.
