Chanel Shoots Down Rumors of Karl Lagerfeld's Imminent Departure
The Kaiser ain’t going anywhere.

Countless fashion world rumors have proved to be true in recent months as creative director shake-ups have rocked the worlds of couture and ready-to-wear alike. But at least one of those rumors remains just that — for now. Despite reports to the contrary, Karl Lagerfeld isn’t stepping down from Chanel. Page Six reported yesterday that the soon-to-be 83-year-old Lagerfeld would retire from his role at the famed French fashion house following next month’s resort runway show in Cuba. However, a spokesperson from Chanel itself reached out to Harper’s Bazaar this morning to debunk those claims. “The rumors about Mr. Lagerfeld discontinuing the collections and the cruise collection show in Cuba being the last are unsubstantiated,” said the rep.
Though, as racked asks, can you really blame anyone for believing the claims? On the very day of Lagerfeld’s supposed retirement came to light, Calvin Klein parted ways with Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli as it brought all of its imprints under the creative direction of a yet-to-be-named designer — seemingly making way for the rumored appointment of Raf Simons.
