Nike's New VaporMax Sole Technology Does Away With the Need for a Midsole
The zenith of Air technology has arrived.
Nike continues to roll out more announcements from its Innovation Summit, with the latest being a radical development in the company’s Air technology: the new Nike Air VaporMax sole takes the visible technology of the Air Max and its iterations to an extreme. Technological innovations have maximized the amount of air that designers can fit underfoot, while also doing away with the structural necessity for heavy foam outsoles. What remains is a dedicated Air outsole made up entirely of bubble cushioning that can “independently maintain its given form, with elasticity,” according to the Swoosh.
The end result promises to minimize the sneaker’s weight, as well as its resultant waste. The sole is to be introduced to a silhouette dubbed the Nike Air VaporMax, which will feature a lightweight Flyknit upper.
Stay tuned for more announcements from Nike.
