Meet the Makers of El Chapo's Infamous Shirt
Call it the “most wanted shirt.”
It’s been more than two months since the recapture of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, after he tunneled his way out of a Mexican prison. However, fascination for the notorious drug lord continues to linger through narcocorrido culture and the mirroring of his fashion choices. In a Rolling Stone interview with Sean Penn, El Chapo is seen wearing a striped blue and gray paisley shirt while shaking hands with the actor. The video interview from an undisclosed location shows him wearing a similarly styled shirt in bright blue. Vice News caught up with the makers of the shirt, Barabas Premium Apparel, in downtown Los Angeles where they’ve seen a surge in sales for the “Fantasy” and “Crazy Paisley” shirts worn by the Sinaloa Cartel leader. Co-owner Shawn Esteghbal displays the items front and center and states that hundreds of orders have come in from all over the world due to the interview. He adds the caveat that despite his company’s success, he is a designer and carries no affiliation with drug traffickers.
