Don Cheadle Directs and Stars in Miles Davis Biopic 'Miles Ahead'
“If you’re gonna tell a story, come at it with some attitude, man.”
Miles Ahead is looking to be a huge movie for Don Cheadle: not only is he directing the feature, but he’s also starring as the unpredictable and inscrutable jazz icon Miles Davis. Ewan Macgregor stars opposite Cheadle as a persistent Rolling Stone journalist assigned with writing a comeback story about the jazz-man who is brought along as a cohort when Davis’ session tapes go missing. The film is notable for eschewing the standard, cradle-to-the-grave narrative or the rise-and-fall-and-rise-again arc that biopics are so often known for; rather, Miles Ahead focuses on the artist’s reclusive years when he was suffering from a creative block. The trailer showcases action sequences, gun-play, fast-talking banter and surreal flashbacks amid a beautiful score, composed by none other than contemporary jazz player Robert Glasper.
Much like jazz, it’s hard to predict how the project will go over, but check the trailer out above and see for yourself.
