Back in October, Jay Z announced a new TV and film partnership with The Weinstein Company. As part of the deal, they announced plans to produce a documentary series on Kalief Browder. Browder was a 16-year-old Bronx teen who was falsely imprisoned for three years without any conviction. He would spent over 1,000 days in solitary confinement with no set date for trial. He was in 2013, but would eventually take his own life two years later after battling depression and suicidal thoughts stemming from his incarceration. According to Okayplayer, the series will feature “dramatic reenactments” of Browder’s life, archival footage, and interviews with family and close friends.

“I look at Kalief Browder as a modern day prophet,” Jay Z says about the upcoming series. “Our prophets come in many different shapes, forms, or mediums. This young man just by the fact that he brought all of us here today lets you know how powerful of a soul he was.”

The 2017 Sundance Film Festival takes place on January 19 to January 29, 2017 at Park City, Utah.
