Tesla is Building a Line of Solar Panels
A collaborative effort with SolarCity.

Tesla announced earlier today that it will be entering the solar panel business at a recent press event in Los Angeles. The company’s inaugural model, the Powerwall 2, will allow homeowners to easily replace their entire roof with glass solar panels featuring an integrated battery system and solar cells. According to Elon Musk, the roofs look “as good or better” than any conventional roof and due to its hydrographically printed process, no two roofs will be the exact same. The products are a collaborative effort between Tesla and SolarCity, the latter of which Tesla is in the midst of trying to acquire for a rumored $2.6 billion USD. A variety of solar panel options are available as well, including Textured Glass Tile, Slate Glass Tile, Tuscan Glass Tile and Smooth Glass Tiles. Specific details regarding the release date hasn’t been unveiled as of yet, but we know that the Powerwall 2 will be priced at $5,500 USD.
