The Original Bones Brigade Skate the 'Animal Chin' Ramp for the First Time in 30 Years
Lance Mountain, Tony Hawk, Tommy Guerrero, Mike McGill, and Steve Caballero reunite in California.
In 1986, legendary skate crew the Bones Brigade — which featured Lance Mountain, Tony Hawk, Tommy Guerrero, Mike McGill and Steve Caballero — traveled to Oceanside, California to skate a monster of a ramp. Their journey was documented in the iconic Powell Peralta film The Search for Animal Chin, and later inspired an entire generation of skaters.
Thirty years later and the crew is back to skate a replica of the “Animal Chin” ramp in Tehachapi, California, and it’s just as gnarly as you’d suspect. In the video piece above, the team recreates some of the film’s original scenes, while discussing their experience three decades ago. The short film also includes interviews with ramp builder Tim Payne, photographer Grant Brittain, and several well-known pros who were influenced by the ’80s skate feature.
