Amazon May Be Opening Physical Grocery Stores
AmazonFresh is getting a major expansion.

Soon, you may be able to get groceries from Amazon on your way home from work.
After opening its own physical bookstores, Amazon may be about to do for groceries what it did for books. According to The Wall Street Journal, the retail giant is planning to open its own physical grocery stores, as well as curbside pickup locations as an expansion of its AmazonFresh service. Code-named “Project Como,” the new stores are expected to take cues from the likes of Aldi and will predominately stock perishable goods while also giving customers the opportunity to order additional items for pickup — which is perhaps where the aforementioned curbside pickup kiosks come into play. The stores and pickup locations will also reportedly be for the exclusive use of those who are signed up for AmazonFresh, which runs subscribers $15 USD per month on top of their annual $99 USD Prime membership.
Naturally, Amazon has declined to comment on the report, but planning documentation and Amazon-labelled building materials at a construction site in Seattle suggest the AmazonFresh expansion could be imminent.
